WWOOFing about Italia!

Back at the end of December, after several months of trying to find somewhere habitable to live in London, for the few pennies I was earning & failing miserably, I decided that perhaps this wasn't it for me.  Perhaps I wasn't meant to be perpetually miserable, working all the hours God sent, at a job I had entirely lost enthusiasm for & struggling to pay rent on a crappy apartment, I would no doubt be sharing with several other lost souls.

No, it was time to stop trying so hard at things that didn't fit.  It was time to go traveling again, but this time, to go alone & finish what I started with La Grande Aventure.

Speaking to my friends about my decision, my friend Lucy informed me about an organisation called WWOOF.  An agricultural voluntary exchange.  There is a WWOOF organisation in most countries, ranging from Italy to Australia.  The basic premise is, you offer your services for free & in exchange, you are provided with food & accommodation.

In order to join this organisation, you must first choose the country you'd like to visit.  I chose Italy.  Check that there is a host organisation in that country & then pay a small membership fee (mine was €25), which covers you for one whole year & which also provides you with insurance whilst you are on the farms.  WWOOF then provide you with the extensive contact list of all the farms they work with.  The list is available for download & online & you can search through it via area, accommodation ect.

Each farm provides you with a description of the type of work they do, how many hours of labour they expect from WWOOFers, what accommodation they provide, what languages they speak, when they want help & their contact details.  All you have to do is pick one, contact them & arrange to go visit.

Most want help for a minimum of a week & often you can stay for up to a month or more, depending on what you are looking for.

All the farms are different & therefore provide you with different experiences.  Some are vineyards, where you will pick grapes & learn about the processes of wine making.  Some are olive groves, where you will harvest the olives & learn how to turn them into oil.  Every one is different & what you do will also depend on the time of year.

I wanted to experience everything.  I emailed a lot of different farms & initially not all got back to me.  I started to panic that I would have no where to go once I left England, but thankfully, one farm, Vinciucci, did eventually offer me a space, although, it was to start three weeks after my departure.

Vinciucci is a farm in the south of Sicily, in a town called Ispica.  There is a four room bed & breakfast, which is full during the summer months & provides the farm with its main income.  A vegetable garden, full of all manor of growth, from tomatoes to pumpkins to melons.  Several olive & almond trees & two acres of land, which houses over a thousand carob trees!

My job, harvest the carobs.  This involves large bamboo canes & some arm muscle.  Every tree needs to be cleared of carob.  Branches upon branches, laden with carob, hanging precariously, waiting to drop.  Once down, all must be collected.  First into buckets, then into large sacks.

Every few weeks, once the sacks have begun to build up, they are taken down to a nearby factory, where they are sold, for a very small amount of money.  The carob seeds are turned into flour & the shells turned into food for livestock.

It is not particularly hard work, but under the Sicilian sun, which is over thirty degrees almost daily & well into September, it can be tiring.  We usually wake reasonably early & start work around eight o'clock.  The heat starts to really sear by midday & at one o'clock we usually stop for lunch.

The food provided here at Vinciucci is exemplary.  Often pasta is served for lunch & always accompanied by bread, which is made here.  There is always wine on the table & cheese served afterwards.  I have gained a ghastly amount of weight since arriving here, but it is simply impossible to diet!

After lunch, everyone retires to their beds for their afternoon nap.  I have tried to restrain from doing this though, as my naps began to creep into several hours of sleep, mostly ending in me waking for dinner & feeling awfully groggy & regretful.

Once everyone has resurfaced, we usually take a trip to the beach, or we often go into the town of Modica or Scicli in the evening, where I get overly excited at the prospect of getting my hands on some much loved gelato.  As I say, it is impossible to diet here!

Dinner is served very late in the evening, anywhere between eight & ten o'clock.  This alone is most likely adding the inches to my...well everything.  Dinner is often another dose of pasta, usually followed by another course, often vegetable based.  Again, there is always homemade bread, wine & cheese on offer & we always have something sweet after, such as melon, gelato or cake, if one has been made.

Whilst the majority of people here do speak English, Italian is mostly spoken around the dinner table.  Despite my previous naivety about my ability to learn Italian, it would seem that I am failing spectacularly to pick it up.  Which often leads to a great feeling of isolation at times.

When living in a community based environment, it is very important to strike the right balance.  Upon first arriving, I shared a room with a young, energetic girl from Palermo, who had been here several months already. Then there was the French, who'd been here since the beginning of the year & of course, there was Hawt Italian Guy, who arrived the same day as me.

It was a nice, happy balanced environment, within which I felt comfortable & so enquired into staying longer than the month I had arranged.  Then Hawt Italian Guy left after just less than two weeks & another few weeks later Palermo went back home.  At first I mourned their departures, but then French & I got to know each other better & I didn't feel so sad.

Soon the Spaniard arrived & whilst I did not like him initially, after getting to know him, he soon became one of my favourites.  After a short while, French, the Spaniard & I became good friends & I once again felt happy & content.

But, as with every thing, nothing lasts forever & soon the balance was upset again, this time with the arrival of a German friend of French & a young teacher from Switzerland.  I will admit that I did not take to either initially & the German has failed to appeal to me at all.

This break in the familiar has greatly disgruntled me & now, after a month of carob harvesting, I am ready to move on.  The good thing about WWOOFing is, you are free to leave when you want.  Obviously, once you have verbally committed to giving your time to someone, it is important that you are sensitive to their needs too.  These are not large corporate farms.  They are small holdings, built & run by couples & families, who rely on WWOOFers to help them.  If you have made arrangements & can no longer fulfil them, it is important to give fair notice or at least a valid reason.

Overall, WWOOFing is a great way to travel on a budget.  You get to explore the country of your choice, learn some new skills, meet new people, engross yourself in the real culture of the country & not have to spend too much money doing it.

My next stop is a wine vineyard near Mount Etna, where I will stay until the end of October.  Unfortunately, the vineyard can only offer me a tent for accommodation, which I am not greatly looking forward to.  One month of camping is like my idea of hell.  But alas, I suppose one should be open minded.  Thankfully, I have some time in Catania with Hawt Italian guy to look forward to first, before I throw myself back into the fields.

If you have any questions, just let me know.

La Grande Aventure - Lyon

A few more snaps from my adventures over the summer...

After our adventures at Eurockéennes music festival in Belfort (unfortunately no decent snaps to show), Ellie & I drove down to Lyon for a few days.  We spent the first day sleeping & the second day wandering around & then went for a three course meal one evening at a fabulous restaurant.  It was something like a Tuesday evening & it was so incredibly busy!  The food was amazing though & surprisingly inexpensive, especially the wine, which was donated to us by the two gentlemen at the next table.  I'd love to go back to Lyon, it was so beautiful & much larger than I'd previously thought.  We certainly didn't have enough time there & both agreed we'd go back.

Tough Times

So today has been incredibly hard for me, in fact, I won't lie, the past few weeks have been awful.  It's not a subject I like to talk about too often, as I hate dark tales, which only tend to bore people, but unfortunately my depression has been hitting me with a vengeance.  As I have mentioned before, I have manic-depression & it sucks ass.  My highs are HIGH & my lows are crippling.  It isn't as interesting to read/talk about as celeb gossip or fashion, but sometimes we have to be honest & discuss it, if not just so we don't feel alone.

So unfortunately, you're getting a piece of it today.  I think I got myself into this ridiculously HIGH space when I cam back from La Grand Aventure, thinking of all these changes I would make in my life & now two months later I'm falling apart, in affect because of them.  The recruitment agency have not been as helpful as I was hoping.  They called me today & apparently I've been passed on from the original recruiter to someone else in the team, which no-one had talked to me about.  Plus I have to go to this wretched 'workshop' in London next week.  I loathe crap like that.  So the whole job searching thing is just way too stressful to even contemplate right now in the space that I'm in.  Y'see, this is why MD is such a bitch!  I can't concentrate on this kinda thing, I lose interest!

What I haven't lost interest in & we're heading back to fashion now, are the Jeffrey Campbell Litas.  For what must be going on nine months now, I have been quite literally OBSESSED with getting my paws on a pair of these shoes.  Then, late last night, I have this email from Urban Outfitters & low & behold they are now selling them online!  I was like 'it's a sign!', not to mention a frickin' miracle!  I mean, I was ready to get a pair of these babies imported they were so rare in the UK!  The UO ones are tan suede with a light heel.  I originally wanted black leather or suede, as I figured they would go with more, but then the other day I wore this sweet white lace dress with a green & pink print kimono (as seen in my profile picture) that I picked up in Toulouse & realised that I have no shoes to wear with them, as all of my shoes seem to be black!  In the end I wore my tan brogues, but still!

I did eventually manage to find the Litas in black leather on Office's website, but had the aforementioned dilemma & decided it would probably be best to go tan.  I got a bit caught up in the decision making at the time & so decided to sleep on it.  Then this morning I awoke to another email from UO, this time with a code for fifteen percent off!  I was like man, that is a sign if ever I needed one!  I got home from work, balled my eyes out (depression's a bitch) & then headed for my laptop to purchase.  Only Firefox wouldn't let the purchase go through (cache problem or something redic), which sent me into a flying rage, where I broke a nail!!!  Did I mention I no longer have boy hands now?  Yeah, I got my nails did & then I went & snapped a corner off the thumb nail!  Can you imagine my already puffy face?  I mean tears, there were tears.  Luckily I got over all this dramz, superglued it back on (yes I did!) & used Safari to purchase my precious Litas instead!

Moral of the story?  I now have some GORGEOUS Jeffrey Campbell tan suede Litas on their way to me for a SNIP of the price (£102 WITH FREE delivery)!  I may have depression, no money & a bruised overdraft, but I'm gonna be an impoverished depressive with gorgeous shoes, dayumn it!

P.S. If you too wish to purchase these beauties at this fabulous price, simply go to Urban Outfitters, put those babies in your basket & enter the code AW11CAT at the checkout.  Hurry though, 'cause they sold out of size three in like a day!  (I'm hoping my size fours are going to fit!)  You're welcome.

The Hopelessness of Me

So, after finally growing some (thankfully not very hairy) balls & registering with a recruitment agency in London, in a bid to procure myself a proper grown-up job, I have to say I have been rather disappointed by their progress.  Firstly they left me a message the other day to say they had a role for me.  Then I call them to seek out further details.  I'm told the recruiter is with another candidate & she'll call me back.  Fine, except she doesn't.  I call her the next day about it & she's 'left the office due to personal reasons'.  I'm told she'll call me about it the next day.  It's been two days & I've heard nada!  What happened to professionalism?  Why am I having to do all the donkey work?  I mean, these guys get paid when I do, right?

Apparently the job they have on offer is as a Legal Clerk.  Sounds interesting.  Worth an interview at least.  Is it wrong that my main concern with a job prospect is what I'm allowed to wear?  I understand corporate, but honestly, some people's ideas of office dress code is still stuck in the 90's!  If I even glance at a square toed block heel shoe I'll be sick!  That's not even a joke.   I mean really!

I was hoping that all this job hunting would distract me from my looming singledom.  Unfortunately, it hasn't.  If anything, I feel more lonely than ever!  I think I miss being apart of something, y'know, like a relationship is a team effort.  Your partner ends up being your best friend.  I love my best friends, but I don't wanna have sexytime with them.  Eurgh.  I need someone good looking (obvs), funny (always important, you don't want a guy with a stick up his ass), well-dressed (poor attire is something I honestly cannot forgive) & most importantly honest.  Honesty is not only the best policy but it is imperative for a relationship to work.  The Ex was seemingly never honest.  I can't trust someone who isn't & we all know, that without trust, you got nothing!

Let's take dear 'Darren' (clearly not his real name, but he & many others will know exactly who I'm talking about) for instance.  So there I am having a gay ol' time at Benicàssim (still at this point thinking that the French Docteur was incroyable & therefore attempting not to get involved with anyone else) & I meet this guy at the bar.  Unfortunately, I was not feeling my hottest at this moment, nor my most sociable (okay, so maybe not having the gayest of times...), so I chat & then bounce quite abruptly.  The next day, looking & feeling better, I happen to bump into this guy again & this time we actually spend time conversing.

Ellie & I had to leave to go see a new DJ we'd found at one of the stages & this guy, 'Darren', follows us there, leaving his friends behind.  Ellie was not suitably drunk enough by this point, so objected to being a 'third wheel', which probably wasn't helped by my drunken cartwheels (I landed several times on the back of my neck & generally made an arse of myself).  'Darren' & I kiss & then Ellie & I have a big tear-fueled falling out about the fact that I have this 'great' guy back in France (obvs this is now laughable knowing what we now know).  After some time, all issues of third wheel are resolved & we all head over to the dance stage, where we bump into some menshape friends of Ellies.

'Darren' & I siddle off to the turf area (gotta love turf, haven't you?), which by the by had a cross shaped pool (I mean c'mon!).  We sat in that area until five in the morning telling each other our life stories & I was like, wow, this guy is so cool.  Then I of course do the woman thing, where I start to immediately fantasize about how great a boyfriend he'd be.  So pathetic, but I do it every time!  Anyway, we agree to meet up in Brick Lane when we both get back to the UK.  I would like to point out right now that he knew of the existence of the French Docteur.  Y'know why, 'cause I'm honest!  Nothing good ever came from dishonesty!

Obviously I was in France for my birthday & 'Darren' messaged me on Facebook & suggested meeting up when I got back.  I told him I expected funding to be low, so I wasn't sure when.  Then I got back to the UK & I did actually have some dollar to my name, so I did something I never do, I texted him.  I suggested dinner & told him I'd message him the next day to confirm possible dates.  Next day I text him to say 'dinner, next week sometime?'  No response.  FOUR DAYS LATER he bothers to message me back.  I was like, really!?  I don't know, am I overreacting here?  That's like nearly a week.

I decided not to respond.  Then he calls me a few days later, says he didn't message me back because he was busy renovating this new flat he's got.  We build a bridge, we get over it.  Date is arranged in Sevenoaks, because it is an equal distance from where he lives in London & where I am on the coast.  The day of the date arrives.  One hour before we are supposed to meet up, he calls me to say he's still in London & is like 'I dunno what to do'.  My first thought; 'well, what you're meant to do is, stick to the fucking plan asshole'.  I refrained.  In the end though, I honestly had to CONVINCE him to go on a date with me.  No word of a lie!  Alarm bells should have been ringing at this point.  Still I persevered & went to dinner with him.

The annoying & rather confusing thing was, he was really nice on the date.  Very funny.  Insisted on paying.  Still very cute looking.  I was a little nervous but at the same time unconvinced of a spark.  We both went our separate ways at the end of the night & he texted me to say how lovely it was to see me again.  Brownie points, natch.  I don't know whether I was just actually mildly uninterested or unintentionally playing it cool, but I seemed to never message him, unless it was a response to something he'd messaged me & even then it wasn't particularly flirty.

So the other week I'm in London for this interview.  I thought great, as I'm in London, I can easily see 'Darren' again.  I message him nearly a week before hand & tell him I'll be in town.  He was like, what are your plans.  I told him I have this interview at one & then I'm going to go see my Aussie friends afterwards in Brick Lane.  His first response?  'Oh, I won't be in Brick Lane on Friday, I'm gonna be the other side of town'.  Writing this doesn't really put across quite the way it was said, it was like, 'well, I don't want to hit up Brick Lane, so you can come to me' basically & I hadn't even asked nor expected him to!  But then it riled me that he wouldn't even consider crossing town for me.  It's a tube stop for Christ's sake!  Taxi at best.  That's when it hit me.  I was always going to have to do the running in this relationship.  So I ignored his text, had a great evening with the Aussies & went home.

'Darren' continued to call & text me, which was fine.  I responded, not necessarily favorably.  Then it came to Shakedown.  I'd invited him to it with no response (as usual).  He then texted me to see how it was going, said he wished he'd come.  In my drunken haze I messaged him back several hours later & told him to come to Audio for the after party.  At first he seemed quite tempted.  After several messages I simply ended it with 'now or never'.  He never came.  The next day he messaged me asking how I was & when could he see me.  I told him 'it was now or never, clearly you chose never'.  His response?  'Oh well, you win some you lose some.'  Jeez, that whole experience was so worth it, right?  I mean honestly.  What was the point!?  I don't get it.

So to summerise on what has been an exceptionally long post/rant, when I meet a guy I want him to be honest.  What is it exactly that you're after?  Do you like me enough to honestly make the effort or is this just foreplay for you?  'Cause I've broken hearts & had mine shredded in front of me before & I have become a little less open to life & 'seeing where the wind blows' kinda experiences.  If I'm gonna put myself out there I wanna know it's for someone who actually wants it.  Not some arse wipe who's just out to make me jump through hoops just to stroke his ego.  I have not got the time nor the inclination & if I'm honest, I hope dear 'Darren' reads this, if not to understand where he went so unequivocally wrong with me.  Like I said to him 'I like you, you like me, make it happen'.

22.8.11

Some people just bring you down

You know how somethings you once loved become spoiled by certain events or people?  Like how I now can't listen to Two Door Cinema Club, because the Super Stalker Ex-Boyfriend gave me the album.  Well, my precious memories of seeing A-Trak in Cannes (I will do a post on the rest of La Grande Aventure at some invariable point, I promise) have now been spoiled by the once charming, now seemingly evil, hawt French docteur.

There's Ellie & I, high as kites & barefoot on the sandy beach of Cannes, surrounded by wall to wall HMs (Hot Males) & there before me I spot a rather tanned, well dressed, bespectacled man.  Eye contact is made, we share a smile & then Ellie & I disappear.

Later we return to the scene of the crime, this time shouting 'Nath!' in our best Aussie accents (long story on that one) & manage to bump into said hawt, well dressed man.  This time he's sitting on the water's edge, so we decide to sit with him & his ami.

Names are exchanged.  French is taught.  English is attempted.  He's twenty six (parfait).  Just qualified as a docteur (excellente).  Lives near Cannes (pratique).  He's also absurdly good looking & claims to be single.  It was like all my little French dreams had come true.

We all got up to dance, kisses occurred & then, 'poof', he was gone.  Dragged off by his friend to some club on the sea front.  Perhaps mainly because Ellie had knocked him back.  Or maybe because he's a massive cock blocker.  Whichever.

I had his name & number.  We texted.  I added him on Facebook (always dangerous really).  We invited him to come to Montpellier when we were back there in two weeks time.  He agreed.  Seemed keen.  In Perpignan, a few days later, Ellie stated that said docteur was not to come to Montpellier alone.  Spare wheel she did not wish to be.

Docteur & I corresponded via FB & text everyday for two whole weeks.  There we were in Barcelona, miserable after Ellie's Mini got broken into & docteur texts me his condolences.  He cannot attend precious Montpellier gig, as he has no ami to bring.

Alarm bells should have gone off then really.  Who doesn't have a friend to bring!?  Surely you'd have someone to bring!  But no, apparently not.  However, docteur was still keen to see me once again & invited us both to his abode in the south.

I was 'this close' to going to his house, literally 'this close', but after a rather unfortunate drunken hate campaign of a night, we instead drove straight to Chabanais.

Upon my return to England, docteur was still in contact.  Invited me to come visit him in the south of France, at his home.  He starts work in Paris in September & suggested I come visit him there as well.

There was me, off in my dreamy little world of French loving & then, the inevitable happened.  I late-night Facebook stalked & I have to say, I am dayumn glad I did.  Turns out docteur had a girlfriend the whole frickin' time!!!  Since March in fact!

What is up with these men!?  Even the seemingly hawt genuine, very keen ones are actually major a-holes!

I considered becoming a lesbian.  But, to be honest with you, my trust is gone.  Even woman are deceitful.  Therfore I think I shall just be celibate.  [sobs]

So to summerise, whenever I think of Cannes, I no longer think of Diddy, I now only recall meeting a lying cheating annoyingly good-looking hawt French docteur.  This is also the case for A-Trak, who, as you know, I love, but who's image & mixes will now only bring up bad memories.

Well thanks docteur, thanks for nothing!  Pffft!

Bereft!

The day finally came.  This morning I finally took the scissors into my own hands & snipped off my precious festival wristbands.  I honestly feel bereft, if not a little cleaner...

Sad times.

Talking of festivals; I just heard the horrific news that a stage collapsed tonight over at Pukkelpop in Belgium!  Three people dead & seventy injured!  Tragic.

Every year I'm not there, something awful occurs.  I should return next year for fear of further tragedy!

La Grande Aventure - Dijon

I've come to the conclusion that living on the south coast of England, is not the same as living on the south coast of France.  England is in fact merde.  Sadly, during the last week or two of the tour, I started to forget this fact & became homesick.

What was I thinking!?  I've been back all of three days now & the novelty has well & truly worn off.  I am also convinced that my tan has faded, although, I was questioning this whilst still in France, so I could be getting paranoid.

Let's continue our La Grande Aventure recap, so that I may continue to be full of longing & sadness at the fact that I'm not there anymore...

After melting away in Paris, Ellie & I drove the (I believe it was about) four hours over to Dijon.  The weather there was a bit grey on the first day, which was part relief & part disappointment.  Ellie had somehow managed to injure her foot (the words broken & metatarsal were thrown around somewhat) walking in Paris, which meant that the blissful country walks we had in mind, were thrown out of the window.  We decided instead to spend our first day in Dijon recuperating with lots & lots of sleep, after being told by the hotel's reception that the piscine was closed.

Thankfully by the next day, the sun had reappeared & the piscine was open!  We arose relatively early & headed straight for a swim.  This was our first bit of proper bikini-clad sunbathing...I immediately got burnt!  All across my back & forehead.  Great, naaat.  Ellie & I nearly had our first fallout when I  attempted to save a wasp drowning in the water & she nudged me out of the way & begun a hideous inflatable ball attack on it, trying to brutally murder said wasp...I may have randomly burst into uncontrollable tears.  Très bizarre!  We did however remain friends afterwards...

After copious amounts of sun worshiping & having made new English friends by the piscine side, we decided to head into town & actually see some of Dijon.  It is actually very beautiful, very French & very much in the countryside.  People had planted vineyards in any spare bit of land they could find.  I even saw a teeny tiny one.

So here we are in this beautiful region of France & what do we decide to consume for dîner?  Oh yeah, Pizza & pasta.  Yep, we went for an Italian.  Classic.  Oh & did we sample the vin of the region...Of course not silly, we drank Coca instead.  Pffft, what do you people take us for, cultured!?  Nope not us I'm afraid.  We're far too young & incompetent.

I really liked Dijon.  I felt like we didn't see anywhere near enough of it though.  I feel a revisit is in order & next time there shall be countryside walks!  I may even eat the local cuisine & try the vin!

1.8.11

La Grande Aventure - Paris

Five weeks after I departed I am finally back, along with an extra five lbs, half a new wardrobe & a few extra digits to add to my growing credit card debt.  My once Costa Rican tan feels as though it has faded, which makes me exceptionally downhearted.  I think the last week spent in the cooler western region of France, along with the distinct lack of cocoa butter application is what did it.  Although, for the very little sunbathing Ellie & I actually did, I think we managed a pretty decent bit of tannage.

We arrived back last night, after blowing off Paris (lack of funds you understand)& it felt like we only left last week.  [sigh]  Looking back through the photos this morning (over a thousand, so I didn't do too bad), I was reminded of the times we had in Paris, over a month ago!  I may have become a little weepy.  By the time we were in La Loire, I was starting to feel homesick, now I'm back, I'm starting to feel Frenchsick.

So much has occurred in the past month that I honestly don't know where to begin!  I guess the best place would be where it all started...Paris.

I had ideas in my head of how our time in Paris would be spent.  Unfortunately, I did not anticipate the forty degree weather & my inability to acclimatise.  Here's me thinking it would be fashion shoot central, snapping away at the pair of us looking très chic, smoking our YSLs, reading French Vogue & sipping coffee...The reality was us sweating one out, looking très fugs & me wincing at my first sips of espresso.

I told Ellie that finding Ladurée for our first taste of macarons was absolutely essential, so she brought up a map on her phone of where they were & we went off in search.  We chose one that was near to where our hotel was, thinking this would essentially make our lives easier...A good forty minutes were spent trailing up & down the street looking for Ladurée & those infamous macarons.  We asked a few people, who all seemingly had never heard of the place.  Then, we finally asked someone who knew what the fuck we were going on about & he pointed us in the direction.  Off we went.  Got lost some more.  Then, FINALLY, we found Ladurée.  Which was pretty lucky, because I was on the verge of giving up.

Sadly it wasn't one of their actual tea rooms, it turned out to be their concession in Galerie Lafayette.  I no longer cared.  At that point I just wanted a bloody macaron!  We bought six (three flavours each) & left to go swimming.

We met this really nice French guy Thomas, whilst cooling ourselves by a water feature one day.  He told us about a swimming pool, situated on a boat in the Siene, we could go to for a swim.  Considering the weather, we thought this was probably the best idea we'd heard all day.  So off we go after our trek to Ladurée, swimwear all bagged up & there before us is the precious boat & there infront of the boat is a great big queue.

I think everyone else probably had the same idea as us.  It was like a one in one out job. We waited in the sweltering heat for a good half hour until we began to lose our patience, with sweat trickling down our faces.  We completely gave up on the idea though, when we saw that you had to wear a swimming hat.  That was breaking point.  I haven't worn a swimming hat since I was at least ten years old!

We left the burgeoning queue & went to sit down nearby & eat our macarons.  Unfortunately, the holy macarons had begun to melt somewhat in the heat.  I tried my first one, framboise.  Not entirely what I was expecting.  My other choices were not the best; pistachio & rose (what was I thinking!?).  Ellie chose much better flavours.  Our favourite being the salted caramel.  Bar that one flavour, I would not eat macarons again.

Out of my Paris list of things to see/buy/do, I think Ladurée was probably the only one I actually managed to do.  Which is somewhat depressing, considering I didn't even like the bloody macarons!  I did not take up drinking coffee.  I never found YSL cigarettes.  We never partied down at the Social Club, or went for a drink at Le Baron.  I didn't even buy French Vogue!  Although I did eventually purchase a copy in La Loire (thank God!).

Regardless, I still had a good time in Paris, even if it was a sweaty one.  I may revoke my ambition of living there though...Unless I can have mobile aircon at all times!

19.7.11

Spain's a pain!

Hola! Been in Spain for a lil while now & I have to admit, I'm not enjoying myself. Life's not the same outside of France. [sad face]

Spent a few days recuperating in Sabadell to begin with. Somehow we got ourselves a superbangtidy apartment for next to nothing. However, we were slap bang in the middle of a residential area, with nothing to do. So our two days were predominantly spent sleeping, eating & watching True Blood (our new addiction) on the laptop.

We eventually had to reluctantly leave our air conditioned apartment for shitty camping at Benicàssim music festival, in thirty degree heat! Thankfully Ellie had convinced me to pay out a little more & go VIP. I spotted the muggles camps & they were frickin' hard core merde! We at least got proper showers, flushable toilets (portaloos are the worst) & even a bit of astro turf (can't deny the turf)!

I was defo averaging two showers a day. It was crazy hawt! The musik didn't start 'til late, so we spent our days at the beach working on our tannage, hitting up the supermarches for cheap drinkage & spending time with our new turf friends. Have definitely met the best peeps this summer.

Things weren't going too shabby until Ellie's Mini got smashed in & some bastard stole the all important SAT NAV! Grrr! The Spanish police are also poubelle & no help at all! Thankfully the staff at the festival were life savers.

We managed to have a great last night, but the break-in has affected our mood somewhat. Feeling Spain & moi are not amis these days.

Getting to Barcelona without the SAT NAV was the biggest palava EVER! Do not know how people got anywhere without them before they existed! Maps are also merde! We now own about four!

We thankfully have another bangtidy apartment here in Barcelona with...wait for it...a washing machine!!! Oh yeah baby, nothing better than a forty degree cycle after a dust fueled festival!

Heading back to the homeland that is France on Thursday & I CANNOT wait!!! I may never ever ever visit Spain again after this trip...or at least not until so much time has passed that I have forgotten what traumas have occurred here!

Until then mes amis. x

All is good in ze land of ze frogs!

So when I promised my blog posts would be more exciting than me just banging on about musik, I guess I was lying. As it appears I have not blogged at all! Désolé!

I have an intense amount of information to share with you, however, I am currently working off my iPhone & am not able to upload pictures from it onto Blogger.

So I shall have to give you some nuggets until I return & give you the whole DL.

Paris was stupidly hot, nearly forty degrees! CraZy! My face melted everyday. So no hot to trot pics pour moi! We met a hawt French guy who turned out to be Moroccan. He & his friend Mo Mo (no word of a lie, that was his name) took us for Shisha. It all started to feel like scenes from the film Taken & we decided to call it a night. Was not impressed when they got us to pay! See ya! Thankfully we did meet a nice Frenh guy the next day, who restored our faith in hawt French guys. Although, to be fair we thought he looked Australian. We're hoping to meet up with him in Paris on the 31st, when we end La Grande Aventure, for some Parisienne style partying! (P.S. Thomas, thank you for all your Parisienne help. We made it to the pool, but never quite went swimming.)

Dijon was less hot but the hotel's swimming pool was ama-ziiing! We did our first proper bit of tanning. Although, I did my first bit of burning. We met this really nice English guy & his daughter. Dijon was a winner for me.

Eurockéenes was really good, despite the shitty lineup. Managed to meet a group of seven great guys who took us under their wing & managed to get us into the campervan camping area, instead of us having to park the car in the carpark & lugging our shizzle to the shitty muggles campsite. Oh yeees & who did I happen to eye spy, only The EX with his new GF! Like jeeez, is it the new thing to have an ex at EVERY frickin' festival! Meh, either way, it was still a great festival & Boyz Noise did an incroyable set!

Lyon was beautiful. We were cream crackered after Eurockéenes, so ended up sleeping through our first day there, but the next day we went for a deeelicious three course meal, which cost NOTHING! Lyon is definitely a revisit must!

Cannes oh Cannes. Cannes is sneakily my favourite. Definitely THE most expensive place ever! €30 for ONE day's parking! Jeeez! Ellie & I hit up the beach festival where A-Trak was performing. It was craZy beautiful! Just on the beach, shoeless, people dancing in the water, big ass PDiddy yachts everywhere! Oh & yeees, FINALLY met a HAWT French man!!! Literally THE best dressed, hawtest looking Frenchy French man I've seen since we got here!!! Oh & did I mention he's a doctor. Stick a fork in me, I am done! There may have been some kissy kissy involved. I'm very much hoping to see him again when we go back to Montpellier for Breakbot. [fingers crossed]

Montpellier was another beautiful place. We only spent a day there, which was not long enough. But thankfully we're going back there for Breakbot (& hopefully hawt French doctor lovin'). We spent most of the day sunbathing on the beach. The sand is so golden & the sea is so clear. [sigh]

Right now we are in Perpignan. This is currently our most favourite of places. We've spent the whole day sunbathing again. I may have burnt my bottom. Oooh lala. We went out for a meal earlier & shared THE most ama-ziiing moules! Delish! (I shall put pics of everything up soooooon!) I had duck for my main. Reeeeaaaaalllly good! We're here another night & then we are leaving France for Spain! Eeek!

For now mes amis, that is all I have to offer. À bientôt!

La Grande Aventure

Bonsoir mes amis! Ellie et moi are in gay Paris Paris! Sweating like a pair of P.I.G.S!!! It's like forty degrees here! We have definitely been working on our tannage! Although my leather shorts have left me with a shorty tan line! Doh!

No macaroons thus far, however we have sunbathed in le jardin next to the Tour De Eiffel. Met a few hawt French men. Met rugby star Serge Betson. Bought up a shit load of fromage at an amazing food market. In fact, we have essentially been living off fromage, pain et aioli! Oh & really tasty cured meat too!

I am currently unable to upload any pics at the moment, due to internet gayness (just about posting this on the hotel's FREE wifi, which keeps logging out! Grrr!).

We may attempt to hit up Laduree tomorrow, for a macaroon breakfast. After which we may pop to the outdoor swimming pool, one of our French amis told us about, for a little cooling dip.

Until then mes amis!
