18.8.11

Scary in the Mary

I literally nearly cried like a little girl watching this trailer, I thought it was that creeps.

23.6.11

A Dangerous Method

I think I may wish to add this to my movie wish list too.

Yu-huh.

22.6.11

The Ledge

I really want to watch this film, if not just so I know how it ends!!!

19.6.11

Submarine

I so wish I had seen this film when it was in the cinema.

Richard Ayoade's talent seems rather undeniable in his directorial debut.  I loved him as Moss in the IT Crowd too.  I also love Craig Roberts, he's so dorky cute.  He was briefly in Being Human too...(which I am vaguely obsessed with)  Can't believe he's twenty, he looks so young!

The film is out now on DVD, £10.99!  Sod that!  I'm sorry but, I've been essentially living like a student for so long now, that I begrudge paying more than a fiver for a DVD.  It's not like I'm even gonna watch it that often.  Jeeez.  Meh, I'll wait for it to go down...Or for someone to buy it for my birthday...hint hint.

Cinderella Man

I finally got to see Cinderella Man, like six years after its release.  I'm so ahead of the times don't ya know! Anyway, I completely balled my eyes out nearly the whole way through!

As I knew absolutely nothing about James J. Braddock, I had no idea of the outcome of the last fight against Max Baer.  Which only served to make watching it even more exciting.  I was literally balling my eyes out & screaming (inwardly, doubt my neighbours would take kindly to my caterwauling) "C'mon Jimmy!!!  Gawd it was intense!

I have to say, despite the fact that I think Russell Crowe is the biggest douche alive(!!!), he was actually pretty impressive & somewhat likeable in this.  That was difficult for me to say, but there, I've said it.  I may deny it later.

When I was little my dad was always a fan of boxing & so I learnt to take a moderate interest in it.  I used to love watching the fights.  After seeing this film, it has definitely re-sparked my interest in the sport!

Is it wrong to want to box now???  Not that I'd make it through a single round, I've got arms like twigs & fists of leaves!  Still, it looks kinda fun, in a gruesome manor.  Don't fancy a broken nose though...

Le Festival De Cannes 2011

I'd like to pose the question:  What ever happened to Brad Pitt?  Guy used to look super fly, now...It's definitely the hair, especially the facial variety.  I'm just not feeling the love anymore.  [sigh]  Words just cannot express this overall look.

Brad's co-star Jessica Chastain was essentially faultless in this Oscar de la Renta number.  Good choice of shoe.  Definitely Porritt approved choices!

The pair are currently starring in the new film The Tree of Life.  Looks a bit dark & meaningful.  Could be worth a watch.  Although, the era & settings distinctly remind me of Benjamin Button, which of course Brad Pitt also starred in.  Thoughts?

An Education

Last night I finally got to see An Education, starring Carey Mulligan, Peter Sarsgaard, Dominic Cooper & Rosamund Pike.  It's an intensely stylised drama set in Twickenham in 1961, based around 16 year old Jenny (Carey Mulligan), whose aspirations of going to Oxford are scuppered when an older man takes an interest in her.

The film carries nearly as much stylistic weight as A Single Man, which is of course what drew me to it, not to mention the jaunt to Paris midway through.  I also not only liked Jenny, but felt actually enamoured of her.  I could relate to her plight, to do something more with her life, other than study, study, study & then work, work, work.

As Jenny puts it: "Studying is hard & boring. Teaching is hard & boring. So, what you're telling me is to be bored, & then bored, and finally bored again, but this time for the rest of my life? This whole stupid country is bored! There's no life in it, or colour, or fun! It's probably just as well the Russians are going to drop a nuclear bomb on us any day now. So my choice is to do something hard & boring, or to marry my... Jew, & go to Paris & Rome & listen to jazz, & read, & eat good food in nice restaurants, & have fun! It's not enough to educate us anymore Ms. Walters. You've got to tell us why you're doing it."

Her whirlwind affair with the nearly twice her age David (Peter Sarsgaard), made me feel a combination of hopefulness & loneliness, which was thrown into despair by the end of it.  [Attempting not to give any spoilers]  It was the openness to something wonderful & then the realisation that perhaps not all is as it seems & maybe things were too good to be true after all.

Regardless of the outcome, I felt drawn to this plot like a moth to a rather beautiful & cryptic flame.  With quotes like "If you never do anything, you never become anyone", this film has inspired me to radically rethink my outlook on life, in a 'grab it by the balls' kind of way & I like that!

I shall also now be take up smoking, drinking coffee & having illicit affairs!  Tout parfait!

Le Festival De Cannes 2011

Bonsoir mes amis!  Yesterday Blogger decided to shut down & wipe off all of my posts for the 12th May, like an irritating twat!  Thankfully it is now back up & running & the posts have been returned.  However, I am still experiencing some technical difficulties.  I'm hoping the situation will be resolved shortly.

In the meantime, I shall continue with my eye spying of the Cannes fashion parade:

Emily Browning chose a lace Valentino number, which I thought was sweet, but not quite enough to impress.  Plus, is it just me (or the dress), or does she look really frickin' short!?  Regardless, I am quite intrigued to see her new film Sleeping Beauty, which looks quite dark & interesting.

Alexa Chung donned a simplistic vintage ivory number by Balenciaga.  I would definitely state Ms Chung as a celebrity I love to hate & hate to love.  Girlfriend's pins are REDIC!  I need matchsticks like that!  [sigh]

Diane Kruger wore a simply chic custom gold beaded dress from the Calvin Klein Collection, designed by the brand's creative director Francisco Costa.  Kruger is of course the current face for Calvin Klein Beauty.

I think Joshua Jackson is channeling Justin Bieber, with the whole sneakers & tux look.  Joshua, you are not sixteen anymore, step it up!

Rachel McAdams wore a gold bustier & high-waisted trousers by Monique Lhuillier.  Colour wise I'm liking it, but in some other pictures the trousers didn't seem greatly flattering.  I have to admit I have a phobia of trousers unless they're super skinny.  It's just a thing...

12.5.11

Okay, so at first I'm thinking, this films looks awful.  Most especially because it has Jennifer Aniston in it, who, let's face facts here, is incapable of acting out any other role than her Friends character Rachel Green.

However, once I made it through the whole of the trailer, I've reluctantly changed my mind & am thinking this is a possible go see!

What you reckoning?

He's just not that into you!

After my fabtabulous time in London with the man crush the other week, I have essentially been feeling like Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin) in He's Just Not That Into You!  I might not be sitting bog eyed at my telemophone all day long, but I am a little strung up on the guy, not gonna lie (although I ought to).

But my behavior of late has definitely catapulted me into thoughts of this film.  Over analysing every moment of that weekend, because I haven't heard from man crush in a week, is of course laughable!  I know this & yet, I seem unable to actually stop myself!  Help!  How am I this strung!?  It's REDICulous!

This is what happens when you deprive yourself of socialisation in order to gain from the greater good, i.e. La Grande Aventure.  It's unhealthy!  A week seems like a month & each day just drags!  I won't even know how to communicate once I'm out in France.  Human contact is becoming extinct!

However, regardless of my dwindling abilities to act NORMAL, I have at least learnt something from my previous misadventures with the men shapes of this world, perhaps man crush especially & definitely from the greatness of this film:

Number One:  A wise person once told me that if a guy wants to be with a girl, he will make it happen, no matter what.  Therefore, no amount of crunching on a guy, stalking, texting, calling, Facebook messaging is gonna make him like you.  So if he doesn't respond, or contact you AT ALL...Then take the hint!  He's just not that into you!

Number Two:  We are all programmed to believe that if a guy acts like a total jerk that means he likes you.  The truth is, he's just a jerk!  I have fallen for this guy time & time again, thinking that it's okay that he acts like an asshole, 'cause y'know, underneath he likes me, he really likes me.  Well, NO, he doesn't, he's just an asshole!  MOVE THE HELL ON!  If a guy is treating you like he doesn't give a shit, he genuinely doesn't give a shit. No exceptions.

Number Three:  "I had this guy leave me a voice mail at work, so I called him at home, then he e-mailed me to my Blackberry, so I texted to his cell, then he e-mailed me to my home account & the whole thing just got out of control.  I miss the days when you had one phone number & one answering machine & that one answering machine has one cassette tape & that one cassette tape either had a message from a guy or it didn't.  Now you just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get rejected by seven different technologies.  It's exhausting."  Clearly we are all way too hooked on technology!  No decent relationship can be formed based on technology alone.  We really need to reintroduce FACE TO FACE time!  Plus, when things are in written format, things can easily be misconstrued.

Number Four:  If a guy doesn't call you, he doesn't want to call you.  Why wait around.  You're only wasting your own time waiting for the call that is never gonna come.  You could of had your nails did in the time you spent checking your voicemail!  Girlfriend, put the phone down.  Step away from the phone!

Number Five:  Don't give up hope just yet.  But don't forget that you should be the most important person in your life & although this one hot to trot might be the apple of your eye right now, if he turns out to be less than impressive, MOVE THE HELL ON!  'Cause believe me, there will be just another hot (possibly hotter) guy just around the corner.  Don't you let nobody put you down & that includes yourself!

Have standards & stick to them, have respect for yourself if you want to be respected & don't give up or give in!

Look what the mothership has purchased pour moi!

I've got a pig lamp!!!  Defo best present ever!!!  It's not even my birthday...yet!
AND
I've now got my most favourite & stylish of films A Single Man on DVD!  YES!
LOVE Colin Firth in this movie.  [sigh]
Finally got to see Water for Elephants last night & it is AMA-ZIIING!  Just sooo good.  Although there were some moments I was nearly bawling my eyes out.  Animal cruelty is NEVER cool to watch mes amis.  Regardless, it was still really touching & R-Patz defo brought the hawtness.  To be fair, he is a bit hit & miss.  In Twilight he was seriously alluring, but sometimes he brings the fugs.  I thought he was fugging out at first & then he brought it round.  Phew!  Defo go watch folks!

13.4.11

Seriously guys, how much are you looking forward to
THIS:

Freakin' awesome!

22.3.11

Hot to Trot of the week

This week's Hot to Trot is none other than my American lover Bradley Cooper.  [sigh]  He's currently nursing a broken heart after RenĂ©e Zellweger kicked him to the curb (what was she thinking!?).  I have to admit I never really got the connection.  I always thought she actually looked her best in the first Bridget Jones' Diary (look, I've already admitted that this is my secret shame), slightly plump & well rounded.  But she lost so much weight & become all muscly, like Madonna.  Never a good look for a woman.

In any case, I'm hoping Mr Cooper meets someone a little more loving & well suited.  If he fancies a bit of British, well, y'know, I'm always here, quietly sitting on the shelf.  In the mean time, I am desperado to see his new movie Limitless.  Looks so friggin' good!

I wonder if the Vue is doing two for one on Wednesdays still...

15.3.11

I finally got to watch Remember Me this evening, after the mothership bought it in le supermarche for a fiver (bargain!).  It has literally THE SADDEST ENDING in the history of sad endings.  I was forewarned of a sad ending by Suz, but it was so not what I was expecting.  If I'd been watching it on my own I blato would have balled my eyes out!  Plus RPatz is his naturally dishevelled hawt self in it.  If you haven't seen this movie, run to the nearest video store/supermarche & get it!  Total must-watch!

17.2.11

Suz leant me The Young Victoria on DVD & I finally got round to watching it.  Oh my, I was shedding tears all over the place (am I crying a lot lately or what!?)!  Sooo incredibly romantic.  [sigh]  I think for once I'm actually quite pleased to be single, I feel more inclined to hold out for something a little more special & essentially longterm.  This is most definitely a must-watch!

19.1.11

Aside from Water for Elephants, I am also desperate to see Black Swan.  It looks pretty ama-ziiing, not gonna lie.  Although, this will simply make me want to return to ballet, as even the adverts send me pirouetting into the next room!
Still on the look out for a cinema buddy...
